Course of Study for Fall Semester 2007

DRAWING
How to "see" and how to draw...
Students will develop their drawing skills through a variety of techniques including analog, upside down, negative space, contour line, value shading, perspective and enlarging using a grid.

COLOR THEORY/ PAINTING
What is color?
Basic color theory and experiment, including color relationships, value, color mixing and matching, and various painting techniques such as Impressionistic pointillism. Probelm solving projects that will include under painting and graduated color.

DESIGN/COMPOSITION

What is GOOD Design?
This is an introduction to the principles of design and classic design concepts such as the use of a viewfinder, cropping, putting elements together, division of space, unusual perspective, dynamic background, and telling a story.

JOURNALS
Each class meeting you will write the art related response at the start of class.

SKETCHBOOK
Your sketchbook will be considered a journal for art. It is a personal journal about art making and art studying. Your sketchbook is an opportunity to present the creative and individual side of your personality. It should contain any materials handed out for art, daily journals, and weekly sketchbook drawing activities.

GRADING
Grades based on...
1. Quality, quantity and creativity of projects as well as process and progress
2. Participation: attendance, working on task, and clean up
3. Sketchbook work including drawing activitives and journals
